Video of PhD Alumni Networking Event
This event was part of a series funded by a grant to the GSU History Department from the American Historical Association. Recent PhDs who have taken positions outside of academia participated in a roundtable and Q&A. Dylan Ruediger moderated the discussion, and the speakers included graduates of humanities doctoral programs at Georgia State and Emory University:
- Valerie Robin: currently works as a technical writer and knowledge manager for Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques (SITA) at the Atlanta Data Center. She received her PhD in Rhetoric and Composition through the English Department at Georgia State University in May 2016. Valerie was a Student Innovation Fellow for 2 years while at GSU.
- Dylan Ruediger is a PhD Candidate in the History department and Provost Dissertation Fellow. For the last three years he has worked as a Student Innovation Fellow at GSU.
- Mark Fleszar is a Senior Writer and Editor at Verizon Wireless. He completed his PhD in World History in 2013. He is the author of 2 upcoming books, one based on his dissertation, which will be published by the University of Georgia Press. The other is an edited collection of plantation family letters, which will be published by the University Press of Florida.
- Alan Pike is a Senior Digital Analyst for McKinsey Digital Labs, a part of the global consulting firm McKinsey & Company. He received his PhD in American Studies from Emory University in 2015. His academic work focused on prison films and emerging forms of digital scholarship, and he serves clients as a technology consultant in his present role.
